Silver Shadows by Richelle Mead
Sydney Sage… The Urban Fantasy heroine written for the non-athletic girls, like me! The over thinker with the cautious nature. Maybe she doesn't make the most obvious choice, but obvious isn't always right.
You know, in the beginning of this spin-off series, and in Vampire Academy, there were a lot of people who didn't care much for Sydney Sage. She wasn't overtly likable. She was a know-it-all, insecure, and raised to be a paranormal bigot. But come on, she really has come a long way, like, all the way actually. And that’s what I love. I love watching my beloved characters grow, learn, and choose to change. It shows strength.
I can’t say that Silver Shadows was my most favorite of the Bloodlines series. There were a few twists and turns that I’m just not sure how I feel about them right now. Some of those twists falls into my ‘never in a million years should this happen’ category. Still, there’s a plausible reason, I thought, for the decisions that were made by characters in this book. I also missed the rest of the group. I want to read more about Eddie and Jill, or Trey and Nick. They've all grown on me. Yes, the core of the story is Adrian and Sydney, and they’re who I’m most looking forward to; taken out of that core group and everything we've become acclimated to, you miss it when it’s gone.
All in all though, this is still probably the only UF/PN Young Adult series that I love. I’m a fan, and will be on pins and needles for the final installment. I love the world and the original characters, and I hope for another spin off after this one. A spin-off that directly addresses the classist/racist beliefs of the Moroi/Dhampir/Human/Alchemist people.
And honestly, Sydney is seriously one badass lady.
