A Kiss Between Lovers

(Now, THAT cover is much better. Sure, still it’s a nakey man, but it suits the title and it’s hot without being cheesy… and I have to say, I like the typewriter in the corner too, very ‘Jessica Fletcher’. I see that it looks as though perhaps Josh Lanyon self-pubbed this one? If so, great cover selection.)
Do you know what my worst 1st world problem is? A book hang over! When you find a really awesome, totally addicting, series and you plow through them so fast and then you’re forced to realize that it’s over. You realize that, at least for now, (please Mr. Lanyon let it only be for now!), there’s nothing more! Except you’re not ready to let go. You clutch your kindle/book to your chest and you debate rereading the whole thing, or even your favorite parts, despite the mountain of TBR books that continues to grows like your own personal real life Hydra. Yep, that description right there is me in a nutshell at the end of The Boy with the Painful Tattoo. To say I was distraught is to put it mildly.
This book was spectacular. Great plot, creepy villains, again with a really awesome main character and his really sexy lovah! What makes this book that much better was the fact that I feel like Kit and JX act like real people. They are pushy, they can be insensitive… they’re both a little bit self-involved… and yet, they weren’t those things on a level that made me dislike either of them. For as insensitive as Kit can be, he’s trying very hard to stay attuned to JX’s feelings. On the flip side, for as self-involved as JX can sometimes be, it’s obvious that his love for Kit exceeds the love of his own needs. I actually think I’ve said all this before, but I feel like I need to say it again because it was so much more obvious in this third installment. Holmes and Moriarity are a perfect match.
There are a two additional characters that I am going to mention because I’m hopeful that they’ll be sticking around for any future books, (please Mr. Lanyon, let there be future books!). First, Emmaline the new neighbor and her cat Pinky. It was a cute little quirk in the story to surprise Kit by making her the real life embodiment of Ms Butterwith and Mr Pinkerton, from Kit’s cozy mystery series. Also, JX’s nephew Gage, but mostly because it was really cute and funny watching Kit attempt to interact with a young child.
Sadly, as I said above, I haven’t anymore of these marvelous books to read. I have a feeling it won’t be long before I’m rereading these books again and savoring each little witty joke or tender moment. Love them.
“This is Bayshore Security. We’ve just received-”
“Hurry up and send someone,” I gulped out. “There’s an intruder.”
“The police have already been dispatched, Mr. Moriarity. Is the intruder in the house?”
“No.”
“Is he trying to break in?”
“No. Yes. I’m not sure. He’s standing right there staring through the window. He’s not running. I’m not sure what he’s doing.”
“Is the intruder known to you? Can you describe him?”
“No. I mean, no, he’s not known to me. He’s big.” That much was for sure. I felt around for the nearest drawer, rifled through the silverware and pulled out… a butter knife. Great. I could make toast while I waited for rescue.
