Unwholly (Unwind Trilogy)
What was missing?
I'm just gonna get this topic out of the way first. There was something about Unwind that I thought made it special. Moments and scenes that disturbed me, left me shaking and uncomfortable. They were supposed to make you uncomfortable too, like his goal was to make you squirm. It was a metaphor, I think, on aspects of humanity.
UnWholly needed a few of those scenes. Don't get me wrong, they touched on a few deeper topics about life, and people. But there wasn't a particular scene that will mark me and I'll think about it long after the book was over. There was no CyFy with the thoughts and pains of the unwind in his body. There was no Roland/Will who we are with while they're being divided. Those moments, they will haunt me forever.
Also, I did struggle with how Conner didn't see right through Starkey. After the turmoil of Roland and the first book, I felt that he should should have seen right through the act. Been prepared for it. Especially to let it go as far as it did. I think that this was Conner's only true mistake.
What was awwwwesome!
I'm not sure how people felt about Cam, because I haven't read a lot of reviews, but can I just say that I loved him! His phrases and sayings, the vulnerability of him. His questioning if he truly actually existed... all of it touched me. He was right, he had no choice. He just is. He's just as innocent as those who were unwound to make him. And I loved him.
Um, was it just me or did anyone else really like Trace?! Awesome additional character! So sad that he's gone, because he ROCKED. Damn Starkey!
You know what I did like better in this book? Lev! There were so many moments when I was hooked on his voice, listening to his wisdom. The Patron Saint, haha. I loved the way he was with Miracolina, and how clever he was. I really warmed up to him big time. I was super super sad about Pastor Dan, because I loved him in the first book. That line about he refuses to believe in a god who supported human tithing, and Lev says he didn't know this was an option and asked if he could believe in that god too. It was beautiful. I also hope that there's a reappearance from Marcus too, because I liked him.
Overall, I loved it. 4.5. So good. Man, when is the last book coming out?!
