Lover at Last (Black Dagger Brotherhood Series #11)

Lover at Last, one of my most anticipated books of 2013... Probably my most anticipated book since I discovered BDB back in 2010! FINALLY Qhuay will find a resolution! ANNNNNNNNNNND, it did NOT blow me away.
Why not? Well, where do I start....
Blay and Qhuinn are amazing! And Ward didn't hold back! There were no fade to black scenes, people. In terms of treating them like any other couple, she did exactly that. Unfortunately that means that they had to share way too much page time with way too many other plotlines. Remember all that bitching we did about Payne and Manny, and how their story seemed truncated to make room for everything else? It was a version of that. The upside is that Qhuay's story started way back in V's book, so overall it didn't bother me as much as Payne and Manny, or Autumn and Tohr. It was the conclusion of a love that started a long time ago. It worked for my boys, and really I wasn't too disappointed in this aspect of the book. I'm so sad that it's concluded. I'm hoping that we get some more in the next book. :)
Fortunately the main aspect of the story was the best part of the story. Unfortunately it wasn't even HALF of the book. Ward has gotten in the habit of having 10 or more viewpoints, and 5 or more storylines going on in one book. Weaving these together seamlessly is not one of her strong points, so it felt very stop and go... like a patchwork story. I'm sure we all have ones we like more and ones we like less (for me it was Assail and Sola that I liked, and Xcor and the Lessers that I felt was dragging me down), but I think we'll all agree that it was TOO much.
In the end, the book itself is only a 3 star books. However, I refuse to give my boys, my Qhuinny, less than 4 stars. And they were worth it, in my opinion. Sexy, loving, romantic...
"Aren't you going to ask me why Saxton and I were never going to work?"
Qhuinn rolled his eyes, "I know it wasn't problems in the bedroom. You're the best lover I've ever been with, and I can't imagine my cousin felt any differently."
Fucking cocksucking son of a bitch Saxton.
As he realized the other guy wasn't saying anything Qhuinn glanced over. Blay's blue eyes had an odd light in them.
"What." Oh for God's sake. "Fine. Why wouldn't it ever work out?"
"Because I was, and I remain, utterly and completely and totally... in love with you."
Qhuinn's mouth dropped open. As his ears began to hum, he wondered if he had heard that right. He leaned in closer. "I'm sorry, what did you-"
"Hey, baby," a female voice cut in. "How would you like a partner in crime-"
"Back off," Blay barked. "He's with me."
Abruptly, Qhuinn's spine straightened: It was amply clear from the cold blue fire spitting out of Blay's eyes that the guy was prepared to tear the throat of that woman wide-open if she didn't disappear quick.
And that was...
Awesome.
